What is involved in an assessment?
What is involved in an ADHD assessment?
(1) Step 1 - Completion of screener questionnaires. You will be emailed a number of questionnaires to complete, these will be reviewed by your psychologist & can provide important information about why you are seeking an assessment. In some cases the screener information can suggest that you do/do not need an assessment & your psychologist will advise you of this when they have reviewed the information. Upon reviewing your questionnaires, we may send additional forms for you to complete. This is because ADHD symptoms can overlap with many other mental health disorders & it is important for us to determine if any co morbid/alternative presentations exist.
(2) You are then invited to attend 2x appointments (You should allow up to 2 hours for these appointments) online or in person. Alongside this we also request to speak to an informant (online or in person) for a 1 hour appointment. Your psychologist will be able to verbally indicate at the end of these appointments if they believe you meet the criteria for an ADHD diagnosis.
(3) If you wish, you will then receive a report from your psychologist alongside some individualised information and recommendations for support & symptom management. You will receive your report ahead of this appointment so that you have time to review it & ask any questions.
How much does an ADHD assessment cost?
You can pay for the assessment in full, or in stages outlined below.
(1) Completion and review of screeners €80.00
(2) 2x Appointments (up to 2 hours) & 1x Informant appointment (1 Hour) €600
(3) Report & feedback appointment €320
How long does an assessment take?
This will depend on how long it takes to book all of the above appointments. From the final appointment at step 2, you will receive your report within 3 weeks.
Some important information for you to be aware of:
-
The ADHD assessment process is not a guarantee of a diagnosis.
-
At present ADHD assessments conducted by psychologists are not always accepted by HSE or Private Psychiatric services. If you believe you may be in need of medication for your symptoms, it would be beneficial to seek an assessment from a private psychiatrist.
